Scope:
KZF restored this historical turn-of-the-century theater to its original grandeur, while updating it to modern standards of safety and convenience.
Project description:
The Carnegie Visual + Performing Arts Center is a Northern Kentucky landmark listed on the National Historic Register. This opulent theater was originally constructed as part of Covington’s Carnegie Library in the early 20th century – one of only a few freestanding theaters in the country funded by Andrew Carnegie during the nationwide library boom. Although a community cornerstone for more than a century, the building had suffered years of neglect.
KZF designed the renovation and restoration of this 10,000 square-foot theater following our initial feasibility study. Our goal was to restore the theater to its original grandeur, while updating it with contemporary conveniences and bringing it up to modern safety standards.
The Carnegie's renewal has revitalized the Northern Kentucky arts scene – once again hosting educational programs, exhibits, family events and performances.
"It will be as if this theater returned to its glory days – a cornerstone of visual and performing arts in this community."
Otto M. Buding, Jr., Chairman of the Carnegie Board
