Scope:
KZF Design created and implemented four phases of a master plan for Rising Sun’s riverfront.

Project description:
KZF Design was hired by the city of Rising Sun to develop, with community input, a conceptual plan for the city’s riverfront. The community’s leadership wanted to a plan which capitalized on the location of Grand Victoria Casino, Main Street revitalization, community pride in the Ohio Riverfront and a grant to assist with riverbank stabilization.

Utilizing a series of field visits, public meetings, surveys and interviews, KZF developed a plan which incorporated the community’s goals and the visual interpretation of these goals. The plan included a gateway landing at Main Street, an extended riverwalk with overlooks and boat docks. The final report detailed the steps to implement the plan in phases.

KZF then provided engineering and design services for the first four phases of the plan's implementation:
  • Phase I: Riverbank restoration, soil stabilization and tree preservation wall/overlooks
  • Phase II: Stairway/handicapped-accessible ramp construction, historic map marker, gateway entrance and retaining wall terraces with seating
  • Phase III: Riverbank stabilization
  • Phase IIIB: Design of Main Street Gateway Plaza
