KZF Design provided design services for a 2.5 mile long shared use trail through the Five Mile Road corridor for Anderson Township, Hamilton County, OKI and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
The project consists of a 10’ wide, paved path for pedestrians and bicyclists through the heart of Anderson, providing a major non-vehicular connection to the north portion of the Township. While the south section of the trail is alongside the four lane, high-speed Five Mile Rd., the majority of the trail winds through a heavily wooded corridor originally purchased in the 1970s to extend of Five Mile Road to Mariemont.

Final design
Detailed geometric design and engineering was required to optimize safety, meet AASHTO trail design standards, minimize impacts on adjacent residential subdivisions and maximize aesthetic opportunities. The project includes a four span, 260’ long wooden arch bridge over Hunley Road to minimize vehicular conflicts, avoid Hunley Creek and improve trail grades. Environmental coordination involved detailed ecological investigation of area streams and coordination with the US Army Corps of Engineers.
This project was awarded the 2006 Donald C. Schramm Transpor tation Improvement Award by the American Society of Highway Engineers Triko Valley Section.
