Citi sought the expertise of KZF Design to design a 45,000-square-foot facility, with an additional 40,000 square feet of outdoor playground space, for the delivery of day care and after-school care for up to 440 children of its Citi Cards--Jacksonville employees.
In collaboration with Watertown, Mass. based child care, early education and work-life solutions company Bright Horizons Family Solutions Inc, KZF created a “family living” center, a style of classroom set-up that is intended to encourage socialization and familiarity in children. The center incorporates a library, full kitchen, water playground, story garden, playgrounds for different age levels, an art studio with pottery kiln and an enrichment room. Other amenities include a mother’s room for employees who are still nursing their children and a system that exhausts the air from rooms with diaper pails to the outside of the building.
An area for school-age children also includes a basketball half-court, a stage for plays, a science center, an art center, and a cooking area with tiered counters where children help create their own snacks. The center’s interiors are based on a theme that reflects Florida’s natural elements—Space (air), Beach (water), and Nature (land).
Benefits:
Enhanced attraction and retention of employees due to state of the art child care facility
Improved company morale and decrease in work time lost
