Scope:
KZF designed the first National Guard Training Center in Ohio that incorporates a new national program that brings local communities together with National Guard training facilities. This new concept leverages public investment to provide a shared use facility that accommodates military training and satisfies the need for community library, multi-purpose, recreation programs.
Project description:
This new 120,000 building provides facilities for three National Guard units with 640 personnel. The building includes an auditorium, a full service kitchen, classrooms, conference rooms, fitness center, locker rooms, bath/shower rooms, offices, military storage rooms, arms vaults, locker rooms, civilian parking, secure parking for military vehicles and a vehicle maintenance building. Two gymnasiums are designed to accommodate National Guard training needs, use as dining facilities, multipurpose recreation and assembly functions. The gymnasium, fitness center, classrooms, auditorium, kitchen, locker rooms and bath/shower facilities are designed as shared use spaces for both the Ohio National Guard and local Village of Woodlawn community members.
Anti-terrorism/force protection and physical security measures were implemented in the site and building design. The design was also optimized for flexibility to accommodate future changes in National Guard Units.
Space for a future Cincinnati Public Library branch featuring multiple media and computer areas, meeting rooms, staff work areas, stacks and reading areas for adults, teens and children was provided.
KZF worked closely with the Ohio Adjutant General’s Department and the Village of Woodlawn to create a facility that will meet the needs of local Ohio National Guard Units and the Village of Woodlawn for many years to come.
