KZF's design-build services earned them the 2002 Merit Award from Cincinnati AIA and the 2005 Project of Distinction award from the College & University Planning’s Education Facilities Showcase.
Project description:
In an effort to focus more on campus life, the University of Cincinnati planned additional student housing on the West Campus. KZF was the architect of record and principal designer for this project which was completed in 26 months. Services included architectural design and production, structural design, site planning and mechanical/electrical design.
Unlike traditional dormitories, the Jefferson Residence Halls offer private living rooms and bathrooms shared by a suite of four students. Other features of the project include a main entrance to each building, classrooms, a common lounge, central mailroom, administrative offices, high-speed computer connections and common areas to support student living needs.
The project consisted of three buildings ranging from four to seven floors and provided about 190,000 square feet of space. The approximately 600 beds are arranged in a mixture of single and double bedrooms.
Not only are the Jefferson Residence Halls the first dormitories built at UC in more than 25 years, but they also help solve the campus housing shortage.
